Well-known highlights like the Tower of London, Buckingham Place and St Paul’s Cathedral, attract scores of tourist every year.

.

TheMapRoom – The Map Room one of the Cabinet War Rooms where Churchill and his Cabinet held meetings during World War II.

London has survived two World Wars. At the outbreak of World War II in 1939, trench shelters were dug in London’s parks, over 600,000 women and children were evacuated to the countryside.

Churchill played a vital role in the motivating the British troops by delivering speeches such as: “We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender”.

.
Skyline – The skyline of the City of London, a mosaic of modern architecture, is very impressive at night

London, like all major cities in Europe, has evolved to create a skyline of modern architecture. The capital is one of the UK’s greatest centres of higher education and among the world’s key centres for international finance, diplomacy, law, publishing, medical and scientific research, arbitration, media and creative industries. London houses a quarter of Europe’s top 100 media companies.

.
Lords – Lord’s Cricket Ground, in St John’s Wood, is one of London’s most famous sporting venues

Whether you want to be a spectator or become actively involved, there are numerous opportunities to participate in sporting activities in and around London.

Many top international fixtures take place in the hallowed grounds of famous sporting venues such as Lord’s, Wimbledon, Crystal Palace, Wembley Stadium, Twickenham, Epsom and Sandown Park.

.
Royal-Albert – The city’s splendid concert hall, The Royal Albert Hall

For the art lover, London offers not only some of the world’s greatest collections of Western art, but also a thriving contemporary scene with huge range of new and creative art. With a stage history that dates back to the father of theatre, William Shakespeare, it is little wonder that London is often considered the theatre capital of the world.

.
HandPumpedBeer – Hand-pumped beer is a hallmark of a traditional London pub.

The classic British pub drink is a pint of beer, a dark, uncarbonated brew that comes in many guises. The best bitters are those pumped by hand from the cellar and served at room temperature. In previous decades the big breweries swallowed up many traditional small brewers and imposed a uniformly bland, gassy product on many pubs. Thanks to the effort of CAMRA (campaign for real Ale), this trend was halted.
