The Northern Cape Provincial Wall Map shows South Africa's largest province at 1:1 200 000 on an A0 sheet, with the international borders and the neighbouring provinces carried through to the edges.

The road network is graded from freeways and national roads through main roads to secondary roads, with route numbers given and tarred, untarred and under-construction sections distinguished — a distinction that matters more here than anywhere else in the country. Distances in kilometres are printed between towns, toll routes and toll plazas are marked, and railways with their stations are drawn.

Municipal boundaries are drawn and the municipalities named on the map — Sol Plaatje, Siyancuma, Siyathemba, Thembelihle, !Kheis and Renosterberg among them. The province's history is carried on the sheet and dated: the first diamond discovery of 1865, the Big Hole, Magersfontein and the Anglo-Boer War monuments and camp sites of 1899 to 1902, alongside rock paintings, prehistoric rock engravings, glaciated rock surfaces and archaeological reserves. National parks and game reserves, dams and lakes, border control posts, airports and airfields, major spot heights and places of interest are all named, with settlements graded from city down to individual settlement.

Suitable for

Transport, freight and cross-border route planning. Distances in kilometres are printed between towns and tarred sections are distinguished from untarred — on a province this size, knowing which of two routes is gravel is the difference between a delivery and a breakdown. Border control posts are marked.

Sales and service territories. The largest province in the country sits on one sheet, with towns graded by size, municipal boundaries to divide against and distances to judge them by.

Municipal, government and public-sector work. Municipal boundaries are drawn and each municipality is named on the map, so which authority a town falls under can be read straight off the wall.

Tourism, heritage and travel planning. Rock art sites, prehistoric engravings, archaeological reserves, diamond-rush landmarks, Anglo-Boer War sites, national parks and rest camps are named throughout.

Not the right map if you need street detail. At 1:1 200 000 this is a provincial overview and does not show individual streets. For street-level coverage, see the city wall maps.
