The South Africa Physical Educational Wall Map shows the country's relief in nine height bands on a sheet 1.1 metres wide, built for the classroom.
Height above sea level is coloured in nine steps — 0 to 300 metres, then 300 to 600, 600 to 900, 900 to 1 200, 1 200 to 1 500, 1 500 to 2 000, 2 000 to 2 500, 2 500 to 3 000, and 3 000 metres and higher — so the coastal plain, the escarpment and the Highveld separate at a glance rather than having to be explained.
Peaks are named with their elevations, Blouberg at 2 046 metres among them. Perennial rivers are distinguished from non-perennial ones, lakes and swamps are shown, and country and province boundaries are drawn separately with the neighbouring countries named.
Suitable for
Geography classrooms. Nine height bands, named peaks with their elevations, and the perennial-versus-non-perennial river distinction — the physical geography curriculum on one sheet.
Training rooms and field briefings. Terrain is the thing most operational maps leave out; this one puts it first, at a size a room can read together.
Offices that need context rather than detail. A clean relief picture of the country without a road network competing with it.
