Wall Map · 1st edition · est. 1958
Named in the UN's Correct the Map resolution. On 4 September 2026 the General Assembly voted 164–1, on a resolution brought by the African Union, to encourage equal-area projections such as Equal Earth wherever the relative size of countries and continents matters. What the vote actually changed
A political world map on the Equal Earth projection at 1:30 300 000, printed 1 475mm wide.
The Equal Earth projection shows land areas and oceans at their true sizes relative to each other. The rounded map sides suggest the spherical form of the Earth, and straight parallels allow latitude to be compared easily across the sheet. Africa appears fourteen times larger than Greenland — as it actually is.
Countries and independent states are named, along with dependencies and areas of special sovereignty, and small countries and principalities. Capital cities and major cities and towns are marked. Peaks carry their names and heights in metres, and physical terrain features, major rivers, and major lakes and dams are shown. Coastal points and islands are named, as are oceans, seas, bays and straits. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn in degrees.
Suitable for
Classrooms and lecture theatres. An equal-area projection means the relative sizes of continents and countries are shown truthfully rather than distorted toward the poles.
Teaching the projection itself. The sheet is a working example of how map projections change what a map appears to say.
Organisations that work globally. Country and dependency names, capitals, and major cities on one sheet, at true relative area.
For physical geography instead. The companion sheet, the World Physical Educational Wall Map (Equal Earth), carries terrain, undersea features and waterfalls on the same projection and scale.
